Friday at Wimbledon

26 June, 2009 | 19:06

Towards the back end of the first week at Wimbledon, and the tournament is taking on a familiar pattern: playing one day, ticking over and recovering the next.

Friday started - as it always does - with a game of tennis/football on the indoor courts.

With the luxury of a little more time  - no match to consider - here was their chance to agree the minutiae of the evolving rulebook which (sort of) governs their funny little sport.

Sensing the occasion, fitness trainer Jez Green scratches his chin

The indoor courts also happen to be the base for the drivers, the ladies and gents who ferry players and coaches to and from the site. You get plenty of noses pressed against the balcony windows, all hoping to catch a glimpse of Andy.

And then to the familiar surrounds of practice court 22 at Southlands; It's been their practice 'home' since the weekend, and looks likely to stay that way.

Just an hour or so today. Everything seems to be working just fine on the return game, just as it was against Gulbis...

Although to be fair there's not to much you can do when it's 2 vs. 1 and you get an overhead...

Everything looked very solid ahead of the Troicki match.

Less solid was Miles' day of forfeits. Funny how a couple of poor performances creep up on you, and next thing you know you're carrying all the bags, and buying all the food at lunch.

Unfortunately for Andy he had to clear up all the plates and trays after lunch; a particular forfeit that also requires the loser to clear the plates and trays for people on adjoining tables.  People they've never met.

We can report he makes a scarily polite and efficient waiter. So much so that the people who had their plates cleared away didn't bat an eyelid: for about a minute, the world No. 3 was a passable member of the Wimbledon catering staff.

Now, just to reassure you that the ice bath sessions are painful, we give you the moment Andy's physio Andy Ireland made his entrance today...

It's fair to say his two minute dip was a rollercoaster of emotions, most of them negative.

Here he is looking at his stopwatch approximately five seconds after the last time he looked at it.

Andy was quickly tweeting the news of AI's dip to the world...

Madman of the day award goes to coach miles Maclagan, who continues to push the boundries when it comes to going under. Fitness trainer Matt Little doesn't look tempted to follow him.

Don't try this at home. if you can, get your boiler fixed.
