Andy breezes into the Quarters of Queens
Andy has reached the quarter finals of the AEGON Championships after a difficult day that saw him play twice, by storming past Australian Marinko Matosevic in 6-2 6-2.
The strong winds that were blowing round the centre court of Queens Club led to both players taking a decidedly tentative start to the match. Both players held serve firmly in the opening games. However it was Andy who took advantage of the difficult conditions and stormed into an early lead. After storming to a 5-1 lead, the unseeded Australian held serve, however Andy diminished any hope of a comeback with a solid hold of serve to close out the set.
Andy flew out of the blocks in the second set, immediately breaking his opponent and holding serve to take a commanding 2-0 lead. Despite a limited amount of resistance from his opponent, Andy remained in control throughout the second set and comfortably closed out the set with a clinical service game, holding to love and sweeping into the quarter finals.
Speaking after the match Andy expressed he was pleased with performance, “It was good. This afternoon was tricky, it was extremely windy. I had to be patient and not play high risk tennis too closely to the lines. I have been moving fairly well in the first couple of match and hopefully that will get better.”
Andy will now face German Benjamin Becker in the quarter finals tomorrow afternoon.
