Andy beaten by Federer in Cinci

Andy struggled to get going from the start and had to fight to save six break points early on. However the break soon became inevitable and Federer broke decisively in the fifth game. Federer then held well to secure the first set 6-3, leaving Andy a lot of work to do.

Andy flew out of the blocks in the second set and a series of forehand winners gave him a double-break 4-1 lead in the second set, however, a momentary loss of concentration saw him relinquish three of his next four service games as Federer rediscovered his first-set form, and yet again broke decisively to win the match, taking the second set 7-5.

“I don’t remember hitting very many good shots after the 4-1 game. I blew it, it’s a shame,” said Andy.

Andy will now travel to the US Open in New York City.
