Andy has moved safely through to the second round of the Australian Open after a four set win over Ryan Harrison, 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-2.
With the mercury hitting the 30’s in Melbourne, it was the American who started the brighter in brutal conditions on Hisense Arena.
Andy regained the momentum after losing the first set, but was made to work hard all the way by the World No. 84.
Despite the toughest first round draw of the top 4, Andy now faces a second round match against Edouard Roger-Vasselin on Thursday.
“He came out and played some great tennis, he was going for his shots and hitting big,” said Andy after the match. “I had to really dig in at the beginning of the second set to come back into it.”
“It’s hot on this court especially, there’s very little shade. He made me do a bit of running so need to make sure in the next round I play a bit closer to the baseline.”
