Andy takes on defending champion Sam Querrey in the final of the Farmers Classic in LA on Sunday, with the match scheduled for 2pm.
Andy is yet to drop a set against the World No. 20 in four matches, a statistic he attributes in large part to the quality of his returns.
“It has always been one of the stronger parts of my game,” said Andy. “And I’ve been able to neutralise one of the stronger parts of his game pretty well.
Querrey is renowned for his first serve in particular, but Andy will employ a similar approach to the Lopez match.
“It’s similar in many ways to the match tonight,” said Andy of the final. “Try to play as steady as possible and take your chances when they come. It’s difficult because he does have a big serve, goes for his shots.
One thing that will be different will be the conditions on court. Lopez spoke after the match of the difference in how the ball behaved in the relative cool of the night matches, and Andy’s expecting to make similar adjustments.
“The court will definitely play a bit different,” he said. “All of the players that have played during the day then gone on to play at night have said that to me.
“I’m sure for me it’ll be a little bit different. It might take a few games to adjust to it but I hope I’ll be able to adjust as quickly as possible.”
