Perfect start in NYC

25 August, 2008 | 21:08

Andy is off to the perfect start at the US Open in New York after a comprehensive 6-3 6-4 6-0 win over Sergio Roitman of Argentina.

He'll now play Michael Llodra in round two, after he came through in four against Teimuraz Gabashvili.

Roitman never looked like chalking up a first ever Slam win in this one, succumbing to a single break in the opening two sets before eating humble bagel in the third.

The Argentine tried hard to throw his weight around off both wings - even chalking up two break points in the third - but he couldn't cope with the gamut of shots hit back, and past him.

Saving the best to last, Andy spun the wheels on match point, chasing down a lob before flicking the winner round the corner.

The gulf in class was considerable.

No signs of fatigue after all the recent travelling either, and after just 1' 35" on court he'll get plenty of rest ahead of his second round match.
