Andy has moved through to the third round of the French Open after a 6-2 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-2 win over Juan Ignacio Chela that started Wednesday evening and finished a day later due to rain.

He’ll now play Cypriot 25th seed Marcos Baghdatis for a place in the fourth round, with the match scheduled fourth on Lenglen, Friday.

After poor light prevented them playing to a finish on Wednesday, Thursday’s resumption was just as stop-start.

But whilst Chela had come out strongest and levelled the match at one set all, Andy ultimately switched up the gears and got the job done in four.

“I’ve been pretty lucky in terms of rain breaks and not finishing matches, so it was a good experience for me,” said Andy. “One I could have dealt with maybe a little bit better. But it’s a tough thing to do.”

“He (Baghdatis) is a very talented player,” added Andy. He’s tough to play and he’s a great shot maker. He moves well, big serve. I haven’t played him for a long time. I’ve seen him play matches. He’s very entertaining to watch. It’s going to be tricky.”
