Andy is out of the Australian Open at the semi-final stages after losing a five-set epic to the World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, 6-3 3-6 6-7 (4-7) 6-1 7-5.
Seldom do both semi-finals produce gripping tennis but at 10 minutes shy of five hours and laced with quite brilliant shot making and athleticism, this one outdid Nadal and Federer’s.
And despite the defeat, Andy ends his first major tournament alongside Ivan Lendl having pushed the World No. 1 and reigning champion to the very edge of his limits having lost in straight sets to him in 2011’s final.
“I feel now like I’m ready mentally,” said Andy after the match. “Physically I can still get better. In comparison to how I played last year, it was much better.”
