Andy is through to the second round of the French Open after overcoming Richard Gasquet in five sets, 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 6-2 6-1.
It was shades of Wimbledon again as Andy came from two sets to love down to win against the Frenchman and set up a tie against Juan Ignacio Chela.
Hot off his weekend win in Nice, Gasquet’s bright start made the tournament’s refusal to move the match back a day to give him more rest look pretty benign.
Just how much of a part fatigue played in his downfall is open to debate, but once Andy’s level lifted in the pivotal third set the decline was gradual and ultimately terminal.
It’s a solid start to the tournament for Andy, and against a level of opponent you might expect to meet several rounds later.
