“He’s a tough player, a lot of experience, pretty quick.”

That’s Andy’s assessment of second round opponent Marc Gicquel, with the Frenchman his next challenge after he came through against Simone Bolelli 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 in a match held over from Monday.

This one is scheduled to start at 7pm local time, Wednesday.

For UK viewers, that’s an 8am start, and BBC TV will have live coverage.

Andy is 1-0 in their head-to-head after Gicquel retired at 7-6(2), 4-6, 3-0 in the Rotterdam quarters last year, but with matches under his belt Down Under (QF Auckland / 2nd Rnd Brisbane), the Tunisian born World No. 57 will be no slouch.

According to the Frenchman, his retirement in their Rotterdam meeting had some positives.

“That was my best match of 2009 but then I got injured and Andy went on to win the tournament,’ he said.

“His ranking says he is better than me but I will make sure we have a lot of long rallies and we will see just how good he is playing at the moment.”
