Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will enjoy his underdog status when he takes on Andy for a place in the semi-finals of Wimbledon on Wednesday.
The Frenchman is into his first quarter-final at The Championships thanks to a 6-1, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win over Julien Benneteau, but knows that playing a Brit on home turf is different to beating a countryman abroad.
“He is at home,” said Tsonga. “He will give everything. I know that.”
“But I obviously will be the outsider. Yeah, maybe the pressure will be on his shoulders because for me I have nothing to lose. I will play the first quarterfinal in my career here in Wimbledon. So for me, yeah, I have everything to win in this match.
Tsonga has form in causing upsets – ranked 38 in the world, he knocked Andy out of the Australian Open in the first round two years ago. He came out all guns blazing that day and it took him to the final. He’ll be hoping the same approach works twice.
“I will try to play, you know, relaxed and be offensive,” he said. “And that’s it.”
