Andy and Laura Robson are through to the Hopman Cup final after winning their decisive doubles rubber against Russia, 10-6 in the match tie-break to win the tie 2-1.

They’ll now play Spain in Saturday’s final.

Earlier in the day, Andy thrashed Igor Andreev 6-1, 6-0 in just 50 minutes to send the tie the distance; that after World No. 5 Elena Dementieva had predictably seen off Laura 6-4, 6-0.

But not for the first time, Laura more than played her part in the decider, with Andy admitting afterward that whilst the guys are supposed to dominate the mixed, he’d “let her do it all herself.”

GB will now fancy their chances to lift the trophy against Tommy Robredo and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez on Saturday.

With the Australian Open just around the corner, Andy will be particularly happy with his performance in the singles rubber.

Having opted out of a repeat visit to Doha, his breadstick/bagel performance against Andreev demonstrated the value of his Perth visit as a warm-up for Melbourne.

Speaking on court after the match, Andreev wryly suggested he’d had a lucky day against Andy, describing himself as a “spectator who didn’t have to pay for a ticket.”
