Andy starts his singles campaign on the dirt of Monte Carlo tomorrow, with Philipp Kohlschreiber his opening opponent in a match scheduled fourth after 10:30am.
It follows an opening round win in the doubles with Ross Hutchins which set up a match against the Bryan bros, also scheduled to be played Wednesday.
Outside Hopman cup, this will be his first meeting with Kohlschreiber.
“He’s talented,” said Andy. “He’s given the top guys a lot of good matches over the last couple years. Beat Djokovic at the French last year. Good clay court player. Very good clay court player, and I need to play well to beat him.”
Back home of course, and Andy’s old coach Leon Smith has been appointed the new British Davis Cup skipper.
It’s an appointment Andy had no direct bearing on (“Leon wasn’t a name I mentioned”), but that won’t stop him picking up the phone.
“I need to speak to him about it obviously as a friend more than anything ‘cause I want him to do well and obviously be successful. It’s a big responsibility.”
