Andy is comfortably through to the second round of the US Open after a 6-3 6-2 6-2 win over Lucas Lacko.
He’ll now face Dustin Brown, himself a straight sets winner on day three.
With the mercury pushing 110 degrees on Arthur Ashe, Andy’s win – in 1hr 51 minutes – constitutes a near perfect start.
Lacko never got a foothold in the match, as Andy picked up from where he left off in Toronto and Cincinnati with a varied and effective mix of offense and defence.
“I managed to get through in straight sets so I’m pleased, but it was a lot tougher than the score suggests,” Andy said.
“Everyone in my box always tells me it’s a lot tougher watching in the heat than playing but I’m not so sure. It was brutal conditions.”
