Andy is through to the third round of the Cincinnati Masters 1000 after coming through 6-3 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 against Jeremy Chardy.
After Andy cruised through the opening set, the Frenchman put the skids under a straight sets victory with some big hitting in the latter stages of the second, only for Andy to quickly arrest the slide in the third.
“I had to step it up” said Andy. “The first set and third set were good, the end of the second set was poor.”
His attentions turn tomorrow to Ernests Gulbis – who’s ‘big game’ he likened to Chardy’s – but having walked off the match court, he was headed straight for the practice court.
“The court here is really really fast. The ball comes through a lot quicker, maybe that was why my timing was off a little bit. I’m going to go and hit some balls and try and get in a rhythm again.”
