Andy’s long awaited comeback from injury saw him move comfortably through to the second round of the ATP 500 event in Valencia.
He needed a fraction over an hour to down Spanish wild card Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 6-1.
Next up for Andy is a second round match against Leonardo Mayer , a 6-3, 6-3 winner against Igor Andreev
In his first Tour level match since the US Open, Andy broke Gimeno-Traver twice in succession as he raced to a 4-0 lead in the first set.
The Spaniard reduced the deficit to 4-2 courtesy of a double fault, and then threatened to level with a break point as Andy served at 4-3.
But Gimeno-Traver couldn’t convert, then had his own serve broken to give Andy the 6-3 lead.
The second set was a formality as Andy broke in games four and six before closing out the match with his third ace of the night.
