Andy is through to the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships after a 6-2 6-3 win over Igor Kunitsyn.

He’ll now play Janko Tipsarevic on Wednesday, with the match scheduled for 3pm UK time.

The Russian never really looked like posing a major threat, but was dogged enough to help blow away the cobwebs accumulated by Andy since Melbourne.

So dogged in fact that it took Andy 34 points – including nine break points – to chalk up an early 2-love lead. Spectators who were late coming back after the Djokovic match had to wait over 30 minutes to sneak back in.

The Russian jammed his foot in the door with an early break in the second, but Andy’s forehand winner down the line saw that evaporate in the next game.

And from his break in game six for the 4-3 lead, the result was in little doubt.
