World Mosquito Day

As part of the Leadership Council for the charity Malaria No More UK, Andy is drawing attention to something most people don’t know about today – It’s World Mosquito Day.

World Mosquito Day was invented over 100 years ago and Malaria No More UK is using this moment to salute the progress being made in the fight against malaria and some of the great people and organisations who are helping make malaria no more a reality.

Malaria No More UK have posted a three minute online video clip, showcasing the history and significance of the day including footage of Doctor Ronald Ross, the British doctor who first made the link that female mosquitoes transmit malaria between humans. Dr Ross made this discovery on 20 August 1897 and declared that this day be known as ‘World Mosquito Day’. Dr Ross was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1902 and his findings on malaria have since enabled scientists across the world to better understand and combat malaria for more than a century.

You can find out much more about Malaria No More and World Mosquito Day through the Malaria No More UK link on the Partners page of this website.
