NAME

Louis Cayer. I was born in Montreal (French Canadian)

NICKNAMES

I have a few:

In Canada, the players called me 'Sweet Lou' because I always used to eat puddings!

Here in the UK a few people call me "The Professor." That might be because I'm getting older, or maybe because I studied Education Science.

AGE

55 years young

ROLE

As far as Andy is concered, I've been a consultant to Andy since November 2007.

I am Jamie's coach too.

IT'S MY JOB TO...

As  coaching consultant I do a varierty of things to help develop his skills.

Firstly, I 'watch' whenever possible: in training and in matches. I pay plenty of attention to his performances, and provide input to help him maximise them. I might also feed my thoughts back into the rest of the team to maintain/improve things on a tactical/technical level.

iF I WASN'T DOING THIS...

I would be involved in coaching certification, and doing conferences like I used to some time ago.

I'd be pushing my mantra of devloping focused athletes who play smart, with effective strokes. It's a universal approach to coaching applicable to any age group.

Coaches need to be careful to develop proper values and beliefs in their players from a young age; it's really important if they're going to do well.

NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THIS BUT...

....moved to the UK without knowing what type of work I would get. Love is to blame for that. I met my partner whilst working at a conference in Bisham Abbey, and the rest is history!

It's great to be working with the LTA in just my second year in the country.

IN AN ARM WRESTLE I WOULD BEAT...

Hopefully I would be able to beat Andy Ireland, but I would not bet too much on it!

FAVOURITE BAND/MUSIC

Since I've been in the UK, I listen even more than before to French music, especially from Quebec where I lived.

FAVOURITE FILM

Life is beautiful

FUNNIEST MEMBER OF THE TEAM

By far Matt Little even when he is serious, he is funny!

FAVOURITE FOOD

Japanese

CAREER HIGHLIGHT TO DATE...

Olympic coach to Gold medal winning doubles team of  Lareau/Nestor (Canada), Sydney 2000.

I was the Canadian Davis Cup coach for 12 years, and the Candian skipper between 1989-200.

More recently, working with Andy and Jamie is great too!

MY TOP TIP...

Breathing out at the moment you hit the ball. Why? It provides mental focus on impact, technical rhythm and physical relaxation which are all a must to performance.
